Why you’ll love this trip
Trading a New Zealand summer for the snowy silence of Lapland is one of travel’s great contrasts. This is a winter wonderland done properly, with time to slow down, warm up in a wood-fired sauna and look up.
We travel in late winter, when days are lengthening, temperatures are a little kinder and aurora activity is strong. Two nights in a glass-roofed aurora cabin give you front-row seats from your bed, and every activity includes Arctic clothing hire.
Highlights
- Husky sled safari through snowy forest
- Reindeer farm visit and a sleigh ride
- Two nights in a glass-roofed aurora cabin in Saariselkä
- Siida museum and an evening with a Sámi storyteller
- Snowshoeing in Urho Kekkonen National Park
- Traditional smoke sauna and an ice-hole dip, if you dare

Questions about this trip
Can’t see your question? Ask Bridgette, she has heard them all.
Are the northern lights guaranteed?
No one can guarantee them, but February and March have long dark nights and strong activity. With four aurora-friendly nights, our groups have excellent odds.
How cold will it be?
Typically minus 5 to minus 20 degrees Celsius. We provide thermal outer layers and boots, and send a layering guide for the rest.
Do I need to be able to drive a snowmobile?
A standard driver licence is required to drive. You can also ride as a passenger or in a guide-pulled sled.
