Trip overview

Why you’ll love this trip

Africa gets under your skin. This journey was designed and is personally hosted by one of Bridgette’s fellow travel brokers, an Africa specialist who has built it the way Bridgette built Lotus to Lanterns: around the experiences she would want for her own friends.

We start with Cape Town’s mountains, beaches and Winelands, then fly to a private reserve bordering Kruger National Park, where open-vehicle game drives give you the best chance of seeing the Big Five. We finish at Victoria Falls, with a day across the border in Botswana for a river safari on the Chobe.

September is dry season: animals gather at waterholes, the bush thins out and days are warm and clear.

Highlights

  • Cable car up Table Mountain and penguins at Boulders Beach
  • Wine and food in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek
  • Three nights and six game drives in a private reserve near Kruger
  • Sunset cruise on the Zambezi River
  • Guided walk at Victoria Falls, one of the world’s great natural wonders
  • Day trip to Chobe National Park, home to Africa’s largest elephant herds

Questions about this trip

Can’t see your question? Ask Bridgette, she has heard them all.

Is Southern Africa safe for tourists?

Yes, with sensible precautions. You will be with your tour host and licensed local guides throughout, and the hotels and lodges are chosen for their locations.

Do I need vaccinations?

Requirements change, so talk to your GP or a travel doctor 8 weeks before travel. Some areas are malaria zones and anti-malarials are usually recommended.

Will we see the Big Five?

Private reserves near Kruger give some of the best odds in Africa, but wildlife is wild. Most groups see four or five of the Big Five.

What is the luggage limit?

Small regional flights allow around 20 kg in a soft bag. We send a full packing list after booking.
